AWARD-WINNING LGBT & DIVERSITY-RELATED ONE-WOMAN PLAY SELECTED FOR EXCLUSIVE BENEFIT SERIES AT SANTA MONICA PLAYHOUSE – TWO NIGHTS ONLY! It's Hollywood's uniquely hilarious, heartbreaking dark comedy – it's speed-dating on crack, with a heartfelt backstory of discrimination, human sexuality and multiculturalism. "an incredible one-hour performance" The Show Report Written and performed by British-born Aisha Kumari (A Midsummer Night's Dream; Fighting for her Family; Domestic Crusaders; Waffle the Wonder Dog; East is East), Treya's Last Dance is a rollercoaster ride through the life, love and cultural struggles of Treya. The show is a superb addition to the growing roster of diaspora-related stories. During Treya's clumsy quest to find a 'life-partner,' she stumbles upon something far more important: a reckoning with a recent and shocking tragedy. Unique, modern, a hit in NY & London, Treya delves into homophobia, culture clash and female sexuality in hilarious, brave and poignant ways as she struggles to preserve and adapt identity within swirling change: an ongoing topic familiar to us all, whatever our backgrounds. "Whip-crack sharp, funny and touching!" A Younger Theatre "Where's all my angry young women at?! Where's that rage going? Fighting for what's right, carving the lines of your self - your humanity - while staying true –current issues which affect us all. Treya is another step in my journey to uncover untold aspects of life, in theatre and film," says Aisha. Written & performed by Aisha Kumari. Voices by Arun Kamath, Michelle Cardno and Don Donelley. Original music by Archita Kumar Santa Monica Playhouse programs are supported in part by generous grants from the City of Santa Monica and the Santa Monica Arts Commission, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors through the Los Angeles County Department of Arts and Culture, the Ahmanson Foundation, the Rotary Club Foundation, and Playhouse PALS.
