Black Lives Matter

Downtown Santa Monica stands in solidarity with Black Lives Matter and joins the fight for freedom, equality and justice in our city centers and across our nation. Downtowns have historically been spaces where people from all walks of life have congregated to speak about civil injustice and fight for the rights of any who suffer from oppression. We are a community of all races, religions, countries of origin, sexual orientations, genders, economic statuses and abilities and know it is the people who fill our streets who truly make our downtown vibrant. Yet, like many cities and downtown organizations, we still have work to do to foster a safe and welcoming place for Black Americans in our downtown business community. Downtown Santa Monica, Inc. (DTSM) is committed to improving Black American representation in our events and public art, and advocates for solutions to systemic issues that negatively impact Black Americans in our society. If we want to see a change in our community, we need to make change happen. DTSM will prioritize advocacy, well-being and economic development efforts to cultivate a more culturally diverse business community and space where we can all feel safe to engage in dialogue and celebrations that embrace and support Black lives in Santa Monica.
