Tree Hugging Friends will hold a public gathering on Valentine's Day, Thursday, February 14 to show our love and caring for trees and our urban forest. The event theme will be 'Love Our Trees' and will be held starting 5:00pm (until 6:00pm) at the landmarked Moreton Bay Fig Tree in the courtyard of the Fairmont Miramar Hotel located at 101 Wilshire Blvd., Santa Monica 90401 at the corner of Ocean Ave. and Wilshire Blvd.
Invited guest speakers will include community leaders, activists, students and educators promoting urban forestry and environmental awareness. The program will also include acoustic music and poetry.
Guest musical performers will be musical trio Roger and the Bookends. Monika White, her twin, Gitta Morris, and husband, Roger Goodman have been performing together for more than 30 years. They play dance music and songs from the mountains and country. Between them, they play the fiddle, banjo, guitar, bass, harmonica, piano and spoons.
The event highlight will be a Valentine's Day 'Group Tree Hug' Circle of Unity around the landmarked 80-foot tall Moreton Bay Fig Tree. The historic tree is the second largest of its kind in California, and possibly the United States. It was planted more than a century ago at Miramar, the private estate of Senator Percival Jones.
The event is free to tree lovers of all ages!
